Wearable Techonology

Wearable Technology : Will wearable technology ever really catch on? Why?

Wearable technology has been around for many years now with products like blu tooth ear pieces and different types of fitness trackers. I think that the older wearable tech will be around for awhile because I have seen many people wear them. I myself have a fit bit and people seem to wear other versions as well. But with the newer technology coming out like the smart watches, I don’t think they will catch on. I feel like they are unnecessary considering everyone has a smartphone which does more than a watch.

Would you want a pair of Google’s computer glasses? Would you want an Apple Watch? Is wearable technology something you’re ready to embrace? Why?

I wouldn’t go out and buy either of the products, but if given to me I would use them. I feel like these products aren’t worth the money and that they can be even more distracting than smartphones are now. I can do almost anything want on my smartphone.

Technology

Do you think that robots will one day contribute to unemployment? Do they already contribute to unemployment?
I think that robots are already contributing to the unemployment rate. . Most assembly line jobs now are all done by robots to eliminate the cost of paying employees. Robots do not need to get paid so that's why companies use them.

What are the most recent technological developments which have appeared in cars?
Well after doing a little research I saw that they made self driving cars but they are not in use yet. But the newest technology is when the car stops it self. It can detect and object ahead of it and put on its brakes. It can avoid a collision even with the driver not paying attention.

How would your life change if all your technological devices were taken away for a week?
I don’t think my life would change much. I have a phone and mac book pro but I do not utilize all the capabilities of the features. Even in daily life I would be okay with out technology. My job would be harder having to be a cashier without a register and if you consider a car to be technology it would take me hours to walk to Cabrini for class.

Do you think that technology will ever be able to produce a device which translates spoken languages in real time? When? What would the impact of such a device be?

Yes I think that is possible. With the Apple Siri being able to listen to us just talk into the phone I’m sure in time she will be able to translate into any language. This would make the world more connected  because everyone can understand each other with ease. There would be no more language borders.

3-D Printing

For the first article they talked about using the 3-D printer for printing organs and human tissue. As I am not against cell reproduction in labs and things I think that the 3-d printer would be too risky as of right now. It needs to be tested and researched more before we actually start to produce these organs. A for the second article on CNN i think that 3-D printing can be useful in society. It can pretty much duplicate or print anything and could be used where certain materials aren’t available.

If I had a 3-d printer I wouldn’t know if I would use it all that much. Of course I want things right away but I feel like it would be more expensive to use the printer rather than buying it from a store or some website. It would really be a hassle to me to use and buy all the materials I needed to run it. I feel like the 3-d printer will become a modern technology but only for companies or corporations. I feel loke for the common house hold it will be too expensive and unnecessary for a normal person to use.

Blog entry 4

Pro: Technology empowers people by giving them the information needed to live in this complex world; for example, information about their health and welfare lets people challenge those in power.

For researching this topic i used go duck go because it does not track your searches. I also used the settings of my search to change the date at which the articles were published so i could see the most current resources available.

Virtual DJ

The program I have chosen to share with everyone has to do with the fun side of college. College parties have to have music, it makes the get together more enjoyable for everyone. The program Virtual DJ (VDJ) gives anybody the ability to easily learn the skills to becoming a dj for any party. The software is easy to use and can be downloaded directly to any laptop for maximum portability. VDJ allows a very simple way to blend songs together and create your own mashups and keep the party going with out having the annoyance of having to select another song and wait for the song to start playing. VDJ also provides a tutorial for quick learning for any beginner. It will teach you how to seamlessly transition from song to song, add sound effects, and record your own mixes to share with your friends. When I attended Bloomsburg University I was a dj for my fraternity and played on a regular basis for parties and bars. I think that with the popularity of electronic dance music increasing into mainstream, people are interested in learning how djs perform and create a fun environment during a concert. There are a few different types of the program. The one I am recommending is the VDJ Free, which has all the necessary components for someone to start and perform at any venue. Now when someone becomes more experienced and want to further their djing skills, VDJ has upgradable programs for purchase. I myself being a poor college student, uprgrading to VDJ 8 is almost out of reach. They full VDJ 8 program has a one time payment of $299 which is very costly but luckily VDJ 8 can also be purchased through a subscription of $19 a month. This is very affordable and can be purchased at anytime and canceled at anytime. So someone can use it when they need to and not have reoccurring payments.
